FundaMental™ Tactile Learning

Working with your hands without support from sight activates important thinking skills!

Many children and adolescents need to strengthen these thinking skills!

FundaMental™ Tactile Learning (FTL) is a cognitive training program and a specialized set of Materials that targets the development of children’s fundamental cognitive skills, including their ability to investigate, analyze and find solutions to problems. The method is based on guided exploration and problem solving through the use of the tactile sense. FundaMental provides a way to overcome fundamental learning issues and developmental problems and is also a powerful tool for strengthening thinking and learning in general.

By moving the exploration of objects from vision – which is fast but often sloppy and unsystematic – to tactile examination, a slower, more thorough and systematic examination is achieved. This approach enables the trainer to see the strategies or lack thereof that the child is using.

FTL is based on the specific ways in which the brain processes tactile sensations, and this opens up dedicated training of cognitive skills and processes. At the same time, FTL draws on the advantage of the trainer being able to directly “see” and identify key characteristics of the child’s cognitive functioning, skills and challenges by observing the hands-on exploration and manipulation of tactile objects.
